Only Konica Minolta could fulfil our demands with regard to quality and reliability.

Persson's Offset is managed by its owner, Robert Persson, and used to be a conventional smallish offset printing company. With a team of less than 10 employees and equipment consisting essentially of a four-colour offset press and a CTP-supported pre-press installation, Persson's produced everything their varied customers required. One of their major customers is the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden's biggest hospital. Treatises and dissertations form a considerable part of the work Persson's do. As short-run printing became more and more important, Mr. Persson wanted to diversify into digital colour printing and opted for the bizhub PRO C6500e. Besides its productive speed of 65 ppm in colour and b/w, Konica Minolta's digital colour press excels with an outstanding image quality, offers a highly desirable finished print surface (because no silicone oil is required) and—of particular interest for Persson's—can produce booklets with up to 200 pages content. Since its installation, around 200,000 prints per month are produced on the new machine. And with such innovative digital equipment, Persson's is now anything but conventional!

The workflow

At present, print jobs are still submitted by e-mail or on CD/DVD, with editing and pre-press work to follow. In case of offset production, a cromalin proof is produced for confi rmation with the customer. Plates for offset printing are generated in the CTP system, after which the offset printing process can start.
For digitally produced print jobs, the process is a lot more straightforward. A sample print is immediately available and can be shown to the customer. For the future, a digital workfl ow application (iWAY) is being considered to integrate both offset and digital production. Typical jobs for the bizhub PRO C6500e include business cards, dissertations, treatises, postcards and all short-run work, in particular booklets and brochures.
