When heads of government from the world's leading economies gathered for the G8 Summit in Japan, they had an opportunity to learn about the energy-saving fixing technology of the digital, full-colour bizhub C650/C550 MFPs, thanks to a display that formed part of an Environmental Showcase. The summit took place from July 7 to 9 in Toyako, Hokkaido.
To promote Japan as an environmental leader, the government set up a 1,000m2 Environmental Showcase at the international media centre. The showcase, divided into the Message Zone, Earth Zone, Activity Zone, and Innovation Zone, introduced Japan's efforts in environmental conservation and featured displays and demonstrations of the nation's advanced, world-leading environmental technologies.
The bizhub C650/C550 were introduced in the Innovation Zone, which featured some of Japan's ground-breaking environmental technologies in the fields of industry, transportation, homes, and natural resource utilisation. The display highlighted the C650/C550's outstanding environmental performance, including their energy-saving fixing technology.
In addition to governmental leaders and their support staff, the summit was attended by roughly 4,000 media representatives from around the world.
Energy-Saving Fixing Technology

The bizhub C650 and C550 MFPs also won the prestigious Director-General's Prize in 2007 from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, in the energy-saving machines and systems category. The prize is sponsored by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The prize recognised the C650/C550’s huge reductions in energy consumption through their innovative technologies. These include the Simitri HD toner, which can be fixed at a lower temperature, IH fixing technology that applies induction heating to heat only the surface of the fixing roller, and their power optimisation for each operating mode.
