Intro

Introducing the bizhub 501/421, two advanced B&W MFPs developed to answer the changing needs of today's offices. As part of the new generation of bizhub, the bizhub 501 and bizhub 421 are dynamic communication centres, allowing information to be stored, accessed, distributed or routed to any destination, whether across your office or around the world. In addition to delivering high quality 50ppm/42ppm B&W output, they offer reliable scan, copy and fax functions, with flexible, open-ended networking distribution capabilities and advanced security features. The new machines have also been designed for greater ease of use, adopting a large, adjustable colour LCD control panel and universal accessibility features.

Versatile and efficient data handling

The bizhub 501/421 provide a wide variety of scanning features, including Multi-Method Send, allowing you to simultaneously scan and send data to multiple destinations in multiple formats with a single operation. Scan data can be forwarded directly to an e-mail address, FAX* destination, FTP Web DAV, SMB, Box* and USB memory, or you can perform a TWAIN scan. The bizhub 501/421 also ensure high speed handling of even large-volume jobs, scanning at 70 opm at 400 dpi or 50 opm at 600dpi.

Store and manage data with Box functions*

bizhub allows you to assign Boxes to individuals, project teams or departments (up to 1,000 Boxes) for more reliable storage, seamless distribution and easier sharing of knowledge. Storing data in the bizhub hard drive also allows users to access and output their documents directly from the main unit control panel. Boxes can be public, shared, or password protected for added convenience and security. You can also allocate Boxes by theme or project for more flexible data management.

High-performance fax functions*1

The bizhub 501/421 provide high-speed Super G3 fax*1 transmission over normal telephone lines at a superb 600 x 600dpi resolution. With Internet and IP address fax*2, data is sent via the Internet or local servers, eliminating transmission costs. PC fax allows users to send data directly from their PCs, and with TSI Routing*3 incoming transmissions can be forwarded to the recipient's PC or HDD Box.

Keep your important information secure

The bizhub 501/421 keep vital knowledge protected with security features like IC card authentication*1, biometric finger vein authentication*2, built-in user authentication, external-server authentication, IP filtering, secure print, encrypted PDFs, and copy protection. The HDD can be locked with a password, and data in the HDD can be completely overwritten with random number before disposal.

High speed, high quality document output

Copy and print output for the bizhub 501/421 is possible at speeds of 50 ppm*1 and 42ppm*1, respectively, with 100% duplexing efficiency. Optional trays added to the two universal 500-sheet trays and a 150-sheet bypass tray give a maximum paper capacity of up to 5,650 sheets, allowing heavy usage with minimal downtime for paper replacement. Both models offer high-quality document creation, with copy resolution of 600dpi x 600dpi, and digital smoothing enabling print*2 resolution of 2400dpi equivalent x 600dpi. And with a wide array of optional finishing units, professional-looking, high-quality documents are available at the press of a button. In addition to sorting and grouping, folding, hole punching and stapling are also possible. You can even perform saddle stitching for booklets up to 60 pages.

Design & Usability

One of the first new features one notices is the 8.5-inch colour LCD control panel, boasting an 800 x 480 pixel, touch-screen display, and the ability to enlarge text. Looking at the rest of the unit body, the high-contrast black and white design ensures that information is easy to find and convenient to access, and that user interfaces are intuitive to use. Plus, both bizhub units feature front access to toner and paper, easy-grip paper trays and a vertically and horizontally tilting control panel to accommodate any user.

Environmental compliance

Konica Minolta's commitment to the environment can be seen in its adherence to several certifications, including Energy Star, Germany's Blue Angel Mark (under review) and RoHS Compliance. In addition, several features, including low-power modes, low-temperature-fixing toner, polymerised toner, and increased recyclability, have been incorporated to reduce power consumption, emissions and waste.
